Exciting Things COMING SOON!!!

I absolutely can{NOT} believe we are already halfway through February 2014!  Shall I moan about how time flies...how it slips through our fingers almost unnoticed while we run around like crazy people???

Nah....why keep stating the painfully obvious truth?

Well, I am excited because I am turning more & more to my trusty little sewing machine(s) to earn some money, & I am

LOVING. EVERY. MINUTE!!

How much fun it is to take beautiful, fun, funky fabrics & create something that my kiddos & yours turn to again & again as their special favorites!

Recently, I met a sweet new friend who shared with me some amazing business tips & ideas that, after lengthy discussions with my business advisor (read: amazing husband), I am planning to put into practice....and am I ever excited.

{I am pretty sure the level of my excitement was directly related to the fact I had permission to shop for fabric!}

But, I digress....

Here's the part that YOU will get excited about:

Starting March 1st, I will be giving away a complete outfit every month. FREE.

Again, I say:

FREE!!!!

Yup...sounds like solid business practice to me.  HA!

Of course, I will ask a teensy*weensy little favor of my friends & followers in order to be eligible to win --- just help me spread the word about Honeychilds.

That's all.

COULD IT BE ANY EASIER????

I think not!

So.  Stay tuned...I'm gonna go sew...then post what I've done.  You can be sure the clothes will be in the current styles & colors, nothing frumpy or dumpy.

You will WANT to win.

On my mark....

Get set....

GOOOOOOO!!!!!!

In the meantime, take a look around my blog...I have TOTALLY redone it...added new categories, pictures & information.  Leave me a comment...show some looooooove.

Pattern Stalking Stocking

Is it just me, or is it a little bit weird to be seeing me back in the blogging world from THIS particular blog?  Well, I must admit that I have let this blog fall by the wayside (some would argue I let the other one slip too...but I digress).  I could make excuses & such, but I won't.

To be perfectly honest, the onliest reason I am writing this tonight is because of the picture you see above.  mmmhmmm...my stocking.  See, I am trying to enter a contest over at www.Patternrevolution.com & I can't figure out how to get this photo into the contest.  You see, by reason of deduction, I have figured out that I have to put a URL in the blank so they can see my photo.  I think.   Annnnnnnnd.....I THINK it has to link up to my blog.  SOOOOOO.....this is my feeble attempt at trying to be a computer genius.

Anyway, doncha just love my retro/kitschy stocking?  I really like the colors, they make me happy.  It has class and spunk.  Like me :).

The point of the contest is to make a stocking that reflects a favorite pattern or pattern designer, and I have fashioned this one after pattern designer Pink Fig's Cuppy Cake Dress.  I have made that little dress many times & it is fun to make & looks adorable.

I did make 9 other stockings, too.  See, after 4 years, I finally got to feeling terrible that we didn't all have a stocking...not a big problem until this time of the year.  In fact, the ones we did have were generic red & white ones that Santa had to safety pin paper with names on them to so the recipients would know what was theirs.  Pitiful.

And I sew.

Ummmm.

...and embroider.

I'm a loser.

I tried to take pictures of the other 9, but it's dark.
And this was the only one that was being entered into the contest.

I'm selfish.

....annnnnd embarrassed.

I am now beginning to think I may not even NEED a stocking.  Looks like coal for me.

Hey...Santa.....could you please put that coal in a baggie so it won't get my pretty fabric dirty?

Thanks....

Back to School-With Style

Daughter number two is a senior this year!

REALLY????

Just last week I was wondering if she would ever walk normally because she thought she was a horse & therefore GALLOPED every where she went.

That WAS last week, right???

Maybe not.

Well what DID happen last week is that she started her Senior year of high school. She & I are on the same page when it comes to wanting cooler accessories than everyone else. HA!!  So,
she wanted me to make her a new tote bag & it had to have a reference to her status (hey! It was hard earned!!).

After some collaboration & some surfing & some shopping, here is what we came up with.

I personally am DONE with keeping calm, but the teens....not so much. She loves it.

I do think it turned out really cute & this bag is so multi-functional & easy to embellish in any way you can think of.

I have made these as:

Diaper bags

Dolly diaper bags (much smaller)

Bible bag

Multi-purpose tote bag

School bag

Dance class bag

Whatever you need a bag for...I can make it.

I can also add multiple colors of fabric on the outside, as well as pockets inside & out.

I can embroider large designs like this one as well as something as simple as a monogram.

Need a bag?

 Let me know!

Email me at:
Diayoung (at) sbcglobal (dot) net
And we can get the ball rolling on your customized tote bag.

OH!  Christmas will be here before you know it!!!  These make AWESOME gifts.

"Seussical" Fun

Yesterday, we went to the library to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. My two littlest cuties were so very excited! Of course, being the OCD seamstress-mom that I am, I had to make them some "Seussical" frocks.

About a year ago, I was given maaaaaybe a 1/4 yard of the yellow Cat in the Hat fabric & I have been saving it for just an occasion such as this. Having that as my inspiration....I just went crazy cleaning out my scraps & my stash. The best part of doing these outfits was: NO RULES!! Haha...

I had so much fun just pulling bits & pieces of some of my favorite fabrics & pulling together some whimsical outfits. Of course, my little ladies were so excited. Anytime I head to my sewing room, I am liable to hear, "Mom, are you going to make me something?" And when the answer is, "Yes!", I hear squeals of joy. Really, that makes it so much more fun!

We were quite the hit at the library...hee hee. These two little darling girls really garner quite a bit of attention anywhere we go.

I am now taking orders for spring/summer outfits. Have you thought about Easter? Believe it or not, it is only a short time away.

Email me today for quotes!

The photos & price lists pictured here are just some of the new stuff I've been working on lately.

Pillowcases embellished with their name
Tote bags are great for everyone!
New dresses/outfits
Embellished & personalized onesies, bibs or burp cloths for the littlest ones on your list

More Totes!

I have been having a total blast making these totes!

So far, I have made them for 2 teachers, a child's dance class bag, a diaper bag, a Bible bag, and a miscellaneous bag.

I follow a blog called Tea Rose home, and she has a great link party which allows us creative types to show a bit of puffed up pride & post pix of our creations on her blog. You might take a look at her site, I enjoy it. I have added her button on my sidebar. So, go take a look, you might see something you like! :)

Let me know when you are ready for your bag!! I am taking orders now....

A Give Away

One thing I surely do enjoy is reading other folks' blogs!

They are inspirational, fun, and informative...sometimes all at the same time. Tonight I have spent (*way too much*) some time going from link to link to link & checking out new blogs I might have otherwise never found, and, let me tell ya...I've found some cuties!

This blog,

is having a giveaway of absolutely ADORABLE proportions. I am wanting to win that dress so badly that I am taking the time to post about it!

HA!

Seriously, check out this dress...and some of their other stuff and their ETSY store...and the FB page they have....

...Nothing Like the Last Minute...

I FINISHED!!!

Yes, it WAS the 11th hour (well, 2:20...and church started at 4:30), but, my girls' dresses were done in plenty of time. We even had company for dinner!

Ok...ok....my kids did the bulk of the cooking. Sheesh...I can't get by with anything!

Seriously, I was very proud of these dresses. Oh, not like head-swelling, chest-puffing proud, but you know, the kind of proud that you feel when you set a goal and then accomplish it. That kind of proud.

My goal this year was to make classic-styled dresses with some special touches & flairs that made each one unique. While the materials were from the same collection (Lily & Will), they were all different colors. I really loved how vintage they looked when all was said & done.

So...how about a little "tour de dress"?

DRESS #1: This was literally the first dress I finished. It went together very easily. I really liked it because it was just the right combination of little girl/big girl.

On the sleeves, I added the touch of brown gingham to tie in with the sash & bordered the seam with this beautiful flower trim.

The neckline also got some pretty trim.

I am learning that the smallest details are what make a dress uniquely yours. So, I added the little flowers to the tail of the sash to make it....just so. It turned out so sweet, I think.

DRESS #2:

The second dress I completed was for sweet miss red. I chose the celery green color to compliment her hair. This pattern was taken from Keri Mecca's "Sewing With Whimsey"...the Puffed Sleeve Dress with the wrap sleeves.

I'll be honest with you...those wrap sleeves...a little tricky-and the reason I put these projects down & waited too long to pick them back up. But, I am very pleased with how the end result turned out.

Some small touches on this dress that gave it a bit of pizzaz are the gathers on the sash and the mini piping on the sleeve band. Oh, and the gorgeous buttons.

DRESS #3...the one that almost didn't get done! Ha! I thought those wrap sleeves were tough...the wrapped bodice was a hoot! :-) This is the exact same pattern as Dress #2, but with the alternate bodice.

So, there they are....the 2011 Easter Collection by HoneyChild's Custom Creations :)

There's No Time Like....TOMORROW!

I am frantically trying to get those Easter dresses done!

I know, I know....I really should have done it sooner, but it wasn't COMPLETELY my fault. You see, I went to a sewing retreat 2 weeks ago, and my plan was to make all 3 dresses during the course of the weekend. I made great progress, really, I did! Dress #1 was completed except for hemming...who wants to sit at a retreat & hem. That can SO be done at home, right? That's what I thought, too.

Now, on to dress #2. It was complicated. The sleeves were pieced together to create a beautiful wrapped sleeve look. SO worth the trouble, but kinda burned me out by the time the dress was done. I left the hemming for that one, too. It must be tried on....yeah, that's it.

As for #3. Well, I did those blasted wrap sleeves again, and, well, that did it. No more. I wanted to do something (more) fun. So, I put it down with every intention to pick it back up the next day....and the next. Never happened.

I promised myself to get it done first thing after getting home. But, well, you see....my machine had been dropped upon my arrival at the retreat, rendering it useless *special thanks to Lorene for loaning me hers*. I would like to say that I didn't have any other machines...but that would be a lie. I have my old one. But.....who wants to go BACKWARDS??? I had SO been loving that new maching, I really didn't want to regress, ya know.

So, the Wednesday before Easter...my new machine was ready! No time to sew on Thursday...busy, busy.

Yay! Kids are out of school (good) Friday!!! "Hey Mom...can we go...."

So, here I sit on Good Friday night....about to tackle the rest of the projects.

I really do NOT want to sew on Saturday, and, most especially Sunday morning!!! I have other projects this weekend! LOL

I really think it'll be fine...really, I do.

Would I be posting on my blog if I wasn't the picture of confidence???

Lil Man Jammies & some seriously cute short/shirt sets are forthcoming. I am so excited about the Easter dresses I am making for my 3 youngest ladies. They are very traditional & girly. *A 'SpRiNg-Y' gIvE aWaY!!*

I know it seems hard to believe, but spring will be here before you know it! If you've been out to the stores, you've likely seen the bathing suits & Easter dresses lining the racks! CRAZINESS!! It's hard to ponder needing any of those when you're shopping in a coat, sweater & boots!

However, even I have turned my creative sights to lighter things. Lovely pastels, spring-y flowers. Mmmmm...almost as good as candy! :D

I am loading up some new fabrics that would look great for now as well as when the weather warms up a bit. Take a l look at the *FaBrIc SeLeCtIoNs* tab to get in on them while I still have some. Of course, if you have something else in mind, I will gladly accomodate your wants.

*WeLcOmE tO HoNeYcHiLd'S!*

. . . my new FAVORITE blog!

This has been a while in coming as I have had to put down the creation of it in order to work on the purpose behind it (sewing). A good problem to have, I think!

I decided to get this blog up & running seperately from my family blog in order to make it easier to profile my newest work & to take orders.

This site is still not completely finished, I will be adding several more tabs for you to view. In the works are:

* Fabric Selections

*Christmas/Holiday Outfits

*Accessories

*Hair Do-Dads

and, possibly...

* Boy Stuff!

Please, share this blog with your friends! Put a link on your blog in the sidebar for me (I do plan to figure out how to create a button at some point, too!)

Leave me some comments, orders, ideas, suggestions, sweet words of encouragement, and, if you feel you must, constructive criticism (nah...).

Check back often, order much, have FuN!!!
